Cross-Asset
Contagion Index.
A regime-first view of whether market pressure is isolated, rotating, or transmitting across the financial system—translated into a transparent decision input, not a trade instruction.
Published automatically from Tank GPT CAC scan · October 16, 2026 close · v2 count correction · October 18, 2026 · evidence partial.
October 16, 2026 · October 16 U.S. close; AV and AP indexes/ETFs; official Treasury curve; Reuters crude settlements; credit/MOVE through October 15; BTC 20:00 UTC bar-open reference.
Broad, orderly contagion; system-wide funding break not confirmed
Technology leadership, small caps, volatility and oil now transmit together. Eight domains are at 6 or higher, while VIX near 20 and prior-session MOVE above 100 provide the cross-market volatility confirmation required by the broad gate. Stable broad credit and Dow/equal-weight resilience keep the move orderly rather than disorderly.
Cross-Asset Contagion Index evolution
From inception to the latest completed scan.
Higher values mean stronger or broader contagion risk. Every preserved observation remains inspectable; select any point to see its evidence basis and primary driver.
Permanent transmission panel
Rates, gold and Bitcoin
on one date axis.
The lines remain separate because their units and meanings differ. Gold can confirm fiscal or duration concern while Bitcoin simultaneously resists a systemic-liquidity call.
Signed snapshot channel status
CAC score and permanent channels update together.
Every website update carries each channel's verified value, session change, 0–10 contribution, source state, and as-of time. A missing observation stays visible as Unavailable.

The 10-year fell from the October 14 reference and eased one basis point from October 15, but 5.09% remains restrictive and did not rescue technology leadership.

- 4/10
GLD was nearly flat during the equity selloff, offering limited resistance but no fresh haven confirmation.

BTC fell with IBIT and the Nasdaq, confirming reduced speculative liquidity without proving forced deleveraging.
The 10-year Treasury, gold and Bitcoin are permanent channels. The guarded CAC website-update command publishes them with the score from the same signed snapshot. If a completed scan lacks a verified channel value, the current publication records that limitation explicitly; unavailable evidence is never treated as zero.
Current ten-domain audit
Why the Index is 64.
8 domains are at 6 or higher. Broad contagion requires at least five plus confirmation from credit/funding or cross-market volatility.
SPX fell 1.09% and Nasdaq 2.15%; the Dow lost only 0.34%, so the decline was broad enough to matter but still uneven.
SOXX fell 4.14%; AMD, MU, SNDK, AVGO, CRDO and INTC lost 4.5%-6.8%, while CRWV fell 11.91%.
Russell fell 1.66%, IWM 1.69% and TNA 5.01%; RSP's 0.42% decline and six advancing sectors show rotation rather than indiscriminate liquidation.
The official 10-year eased to 5.09% and 2-year to 4.74%, but restrictive absolute yields and 74.3% reported December-hike odds keep duration pressure active.
Broad HY OAS eased to 3.23% and IG held at 0.84%, while CCC remained extreme at 12.78%; HYG slipped 0.34% without system-wide widening.
VIX jumped 21.45% to 19.99 and the latest available MOVE stayed above 100, supplying cross-market volatility confirmation without disorder.
Brent surged 3.7% to $109.86 and WTI 3.5% to $101.41, strengthening the inflation-to-rates transmission channel.
UUP fell 0.22% and Reuters reported DXY down 0.21%; the dollar did not confirm a global funding squeeze.
GLD slipped 0.18% to $382.01; it neither confirmed a fresh haven bid nor showed a disorderly cash-raising break.
BTC's cash-close reference fell 1.01% to $81,468 and IBIT lost 0.94%, reducing speculative-liquidity resistance as equities sold off.
Evidence limitations: AV COMP/RUT calls were rate-limited once and not retried; AP supplied exact closes, but AV OHLC remained unavailable. Direct credit and MOVE lag one session; exchange A/D and natural gas were unavailable. RSP/IWM/TNA are breadth proxies. BTC uses the 20:00 UTC bar open. The 60-68 score range is judgmental, not a calibrated probability.

The framework asks where pressure began, which channels carry it, what confirms or resists it, and what would turn localized stress into broad contagion. Each of ten independent domains receives a 0–10 assessment; together they form CAC Risk on a 0–100 scale.
At least five domains must score 6 or higher, with confirmation from credit and funding or cross-market volatility.
The ten transmission channels
- 01Equity regime
S&P 500 and Nasdaq trend, reaction quality, and the market’s ability to absorb pressure.
- 02Leadership & earnings
Whether leadership expands or breaks, with results and guidance tested against price response.
- 03Breadth / Russell / TNA
Participation, equal-weight behavior, small caps, advance/decline evidence, and leveraged confirmation.
- 04Treasury / Fed
Policy expectations, long and real yields, curve pressure, and duration repricing.
- 05Credit / funding
Credit spreads, liquidity, and evidence of forced financing stress.
- 06Volatility
Equity and rate volatility, term structure, and cross-market uncertainty.
- 07Oil / gas
Growth, inflation, supply risk, demand signals, and downstream effects.
- 08U.S. dollar
Global liquidity, safe-haven demand, policy divergence, or resistance to a risk-off thesis.
- 09Gold / havens
Inflation and fiscal hedging, real-yield response, defensive demand, or forced cash raising.
- 10Bitcoin / liquidity
Speculative liquidity, risk appetite, deleveraging, or resistance to systemic stress.
Disciplined use
Every run dates its evidence, scores each domain with a short trail, maps the proposed chain, applies the systemic gate, builds base/bull/bear scenarios with invalidation, governs selectivity, names the next test, and preserves the record without erasing prior readings.
Stewardship principle: Faith governs the steward; verified evidence governs the market decision. Faith shapes character and conduct but never replaces invalidation, suitability, data quality, or risk controls.
The Cross-Asset Contagion Index scores ten independent domains from 0–10: equity regime, leadership and earnings, breadth and small caps, Treasury and Fed policy, credit and funding, volatility, oil and gas, the U.S. dollar, gold and Bitcoin. Higher totals mean stronger or broader contagion channels.
Broad contagion is not declared from the number alone. At least five domains must score 6 or higher, and credit/funding or cross-market volatility must confirm. This prevents a severe but localized sector decline from being mislabeled as a systemic event.
Stewardship discipline: God governs the trader; verified evidence governs the trade. Faith shapes patience, truthfulness, sizing and risk control. It does not replace invalidation or evidence.
